Glucocorticoid treatment can cause bone loss in some individuals, while the bone mass remains stable in others. The aim of this study is to find a biomarker that can identify individuals at risk of Glucocorticoid-Induced Bone loss.

Glucocorticoids are used due to their anti-inflammatory and immuno-suppressive effects and are part of the treatment of numerous inflammatory conditions. However, glucocorticoids also have several unwanted side effects, including the risk of secondary osteoporosis.
This study uses a DXA-scanned cohort of 64000 individuals from OUH, combined with registry data from Statistics Denmark, to study the association between glucocorticoid dose and bone loss.
