The master’s degree programme in Public Health Science consists of four semesters (two years). The master’s degree programme is organised in a quarterly structure. The quarterly structure involves four annual teaching periods of eight weeks each, with an exam period immediately following a teaching period.

The first semester consists of four compulsory subjects, including: theories, tools and methods in public health science, health policy, ethics and project management.

Specialisation

The University of Southern Denmark offers three specialisations in public health science:

  • Global Health and Equity (Esbjerg)
  • Health Economics and Policy (Esbjerg)
  • Implementation and Evaluation (Odense)

Electives, internships or study abroad?

In the third semester, students are free to choose from a number of elective modules within the three specialisations or other electives. It is also possible to do an internship or study abroad.

Master’s thesis

The fourth semester is dedicated to the preparation of the master’s thesis. In addition to formal supervision by a lecturer affiliated with the programme, ‘Master’s Thesis Seminars’ are offered to discuss the synopsis, research design, methods and empirical studies.
