Special regarding private advertisements
If you decide to look for housing on your own, please be careful not to be cheated, as some adds are scams. Not many, but a few.
Here is what to look for that might indicate that the ad is not serious:
- Transfer of money to a non-Danish bank account
- The asking for an extraordinary large amount of money up front
- The owner will not be present to hand over the key to the apartment
- Etc.
If possible, have a friend visit the place with the owner to see that the place exists and is available, and if you can, wait with the payment until you arrive. If the ad belongs to a housing association, it may be a good idea to look up the association on the internet.
In short, use your common sense.
