You will get a new and fresh outlook on both your organisation and the concrete challenge – as well as an approach that is not coloured by the way you normally view challenges.

The student must elucidate and solve the challenge of your organisation from a theoretical and analytical basis. This means that the solution proposal for your problem is based on the latest academic theories, models and analytical tools that the student has learned during their education.

A project collaboration cannot be equated with hiring a consultant, as the student must first and foremost meet the academic requirements of the programme.

A project collaboration differs from student jobs and internships in that the student solves only the problem that you have provided as a case. Thus, they will not be able to perform practical work or other tasks for you during a project collaboration.

Case/project
You can upload your case in SDU Jobbank the year round, but if the problem is for a bachelor thesis or a master's thesis, it is a good idea to upload it in the autumn so that students have time to consider their options before starting the assignment in February.

The problem can be modified by the student and their supervisor to match the requirements of the programme. Both students, the supervisor and the organisation must agree on and approve the final problem before starting.

Duration

A project collaboration can be of varying length. Bachelor assignments and master’s theses most often span a full semester from February to June. In science degree programmes, master’s theses may extend over a year if experiments are involved.

In most cases, the student must defend their assignment in front of the supervisor and external examiner.

Result
You can agree that the student must hand over the results of the assignment before starting the collaboration. You can also agree that you and any other relevant employees will receive a presentation of the key points.

Salary
The student should not receive a salary during a project collaboration, as it is part of the student’s education and the student therefore receives SU (state education grant).

However, you can agree that your organisation will bear certain expenses, such as transportation, when the student is interviewing relevant people or conducting observational studies.

Ongoing contact
Set aside resources to meet before and during the course and for contact during the collaboration. It’s a good idea to agree in advance how you will communicate along the way, and add any status meetings to your calendars.

The student usually works from home and does not need office space.
