Entry requirements

To apply for the Master's programme in Public Health, you need a relevant Bachelor's degree. You can apply if you hold one of the following degrees:

The following Bachelor’s and professional Bachelor’s degrees meet the admission requirements if they contain a minimum of 7.5 ECTS within epidemiology and biostatistics – or if they complete the SDU Bridging course after admission:

  • Medicine from Danish universities
  • Biomechanics from University of Southern Denmark
  • Sports Science from Danish universities
  • Dentistry from Aarhus University or University of Copenhagen
  • Biomedicine from Danish universities
  • Pharmacy from University of Southern Denmark or University of Copenhagen
  • Health Promotion and Health Strategy from Roskilde University
  • Psychology from Danish universities
  • Nursing from Danish university colleges
  • Physiotherapy from Danish university colleges
  • Occupational therapy from Danish university colleges
  • Radiography from Danish university colleges
  • Nutrition and Health from Danish university colleges
  • Midwife from Danish university colleges
  • Biomedical laboratory technician from Danish university colleges
  • Global Nutrition and Health from VIA University College and University College Copenhagen
  • Teacher with physical education as a main subject 
  • Another Bachelor’s or professional Bachelor’s degree which contains a minimum of 10 ECTS in one or more of the following subjects
    - Health related research methods (e.g., quantitative, and qualitative methods)
    - Health related topics (e.g., health promotion, health behavior, health promotion, public health, and pathology, health interventions, digital health, health risks)
    - Health system (e.g., health economics, public health administration, global health)

When you have applied, the university will evaluate whether your degree meets the admission requirements.  

English language requirements

The programme is taught in English. If your Bachelor’s degree is not from SDU, you are required to submit proof of your proficiency in English. See the English language requirements.

Selection criteria

There is a limited number of study places in the programme.

If there are more qualified applicants than study places, the following criteria are used for the selection of applicants without a legal claim. Each criterion releases one point. Applicants are prioritized based on their total scores. 

If more qualified applicants have the same score, applicants are prioritized based on the grade point average of the qualifying degree. If you haven't finished your degree when you apply, we will use the grade point average of the courses passed at the time of application.

University bachelor's degree within health sciences as listed in the admission requirements in the curriculum:

  • Public Health
  • Medicine
  • Biomechanics
  • Sports Science
  • Human Biology
  • Dentistry
  • Biomedicine
  • Pharmacy
  • Health Promotion
  • Psychology
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) in quantitative analysis (Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.)
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) in epidemiology
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) in qualitative methods
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) in general research methods/theory of science
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) in health promotion/health education/behavioural sciences
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) in social sciences/economics
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) in biology/physiology/medicine
  • Minimum grade of 10/B in statistics or similar course (of minimum 3 ECTS).
  • Minimum 1 course (of minimum 3 ECTS) taken in another country than the qualifying degree (study abroad)

Supplementing your degree

It is possible to supplement your Bachelor's or professional Bachelor's degree with SDU's Bridging course to fulfill the requirement of 7.5 ECTS in epidemiology and biostatistics. The course must be completed after admission and before study start.

Please note in relation to admission for vacant study places: After 15. July, you can only be admitted if you fulfil all requirements without having to follow the bridging course. 

As a Bachelor student at SDU, you can apply for permission to follow up to 30 ECTS Master-level courses even though you have yet to complete your Bachelor’s degree.

You can be granted permission if you have the necessary academic qualifications. The progression of your Bachelor’s programme is crucial to the outcome of your application.

Have you completed a Master’s programme?

If you’ve already obtained a Master’s degree, you can only be admitted to a new Master’s programme if there are vacant study places in the programme.

Have you completed another type of study programme?

As long as you do not hold a Master’s degree, you are free to apply for admission to a new programme.
