SDU Esbjerg

Denmark is a leader in my field

Daniele Chiarato, 24, Italy, environmental and resource management

In Italy, we learned a bit about sustainability, and I realised that I wanted to study something related to the green economy. I started looking into my options and came across SDU in Esbjerg. I felt that Denmark was the right place to study, especially since the country is a frontrunner in sustainability.

I talked to a friend who also studies at SDU— but in Odense. He spoke highly of both the university and the country.

Close ties with the business world

I really enjoy living here, even though it would be nice if it were a bit warmer! The university is great at connecting you with the business world, organising events, and making your studies as practical as possible, so you’re well-prepared for a career after your studies.

Our classes often focus on industry needs. Assignments in my programme are often realistic cases and sometimes we even collaborate with real companies, making it very hands-on.

Right now, I have a student job at Viking, and if it leads to a full-time position, I could see myself staying in Denmark. The work-life balance is good, and you have plenty of opportunities to live a fulfilling life outside of work.

A great community

Esbjerg might feel like a small town, but there’s always something to do. There are plenty of cultural events, and it’s easy to stay social through sports and parties. It’s worth investing in the social side of things—it makes your university experience so much better, and SDU puts a big effort in organising different activities.

There are many international students in town, and the Danish students at SDU are good at speaking English. It’s easy to create a community and meet other young people here. The university helped me find housing, so I live close to both campus and the city center at an affordable rent.

Be open to joining the introduction activities. There are plenty of people starting uni just like you, and who want to meet others and have fun. And remember to buy some rainwear!
