As an energy systems engineer, you will become an expert in analysing energy systems to understand and master the complex interactions between energy technologies, digital technologies, economics and legislation. You will specialise in the development and analysis of renewable energy solutions and become an expert in the digital transformation of the energy sector. With this master's programme, you will become a key player in solving the energy challenges of the future.
Master's programme
The master's programme is 2 years long and consists of 120 ECTS credits. It picks up where the bachelor left off. You can be admitted to the 2-year master's programme, regardless of whether you have a bachelor's degree from SDU or from another university.
During the last two years of the programme, you will work on energy systems analysis. You will work on technical modelling of energy processes and technical analysis of the environmental and societal impacts of energy technology. You understand how to use energy data to intelligently optimise energy systems and processes.
You will gain the professional and technical knowledge to engage in operational and development work of different energy systems, and you will be ready to act as a link between experts and generalists, technicians and politicians. You will analyse and optimise how we use existing and new energy technologies such as wind turbines, biomass systems, solar cells, fuel cells, wave energy plants, heat pumps, future cogeneration plants and smart grid.

Project and research-based learning environment
You will be part of a dynamic learning environment based on project work, cases and studies. You'll learn about teamwork and cooperation, preparing you for the work you'll do in the future. We use research literature, and in your thesis project you will demonstrate your competence in using peer-reviewed research publications. The programme is highly international and you will have international lecturers teaching in English.
