Cyberattacks are an escalating threat in Denmark, putting both businesses and individuals at risk. As our reliance on digital platforms grows, so does our vulnerability to cyberattacks. Unfortunately, most data breaches stem from human error - poor digital habits and a lack of awareness can expose users to these threats. This highlights the urgent need for new and engaging approaches to educating citizens about digital security and protecting them at work and in their personal lives.

Aims

To empower the Danish population with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves online, our project seeks to develop an innovative chatbot solution. The chatbot will provide proactive guidance on, for instance, safe digital practices, encouraging better password habits, vigilance against phishing attempts, and other essential security measures. Researchers aim to understand how users interact with this chatbot, and how an interaction with this chatbot influences digital security behavior.

Benefits

This project’s findings benefit society, businesses, and public policy by establishing and systematically validating a new type of chatbot, namely digital security chatbots. Digital security chatbots inform about digital security (e.g., chatbot provides advice to identify and avoid threats) and can be implemented in peoples’ browsers or as a tool for companies to inform their employees.

The findings of this project inform about the effectiveness of digital security chatbots and provide implications for an effective design. In addition, this project’s findings inform about ways to motivate people to interact with digital security chatbots.
