SDU to host international conference on software architecture
The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) has secured a major international conference on software architecture, which will take place in Odense next year. The conference, themed "Architecting for the Next Generation of Intelligent Systems," will focus on the software development of future software systems.
SDU has attracted the most significant and prestigious conference in software architecture, namely the IEEE International Conference on Software Architecture (ICSA).
The conference is a global forum where researchers, practitioners, and experts in software architecture meet to share knowledge, present research, and discuss the latest developments and techniques in the field.
"It is a significant opportunity for SDU and a great honour to host the ICSA conference. It brings the world's leading experts in software architecture to Denmark, creates a platform for knowledge sharing and innovation, and strengthens connections between academia and industry," says Professor Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard from SDU Software Engineering at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute.
He is one of the two main organizers of the conference. The other is Len Bass from CMU, USA, one of the most recognized figures in the field and the principal author of several essential books.
Even if one doubts the importance of software architecture, it is enough to mention public IT systems that have failed due to excessive technical complexity. An example is the Danish tax authority's debt collection system, EFI, where the overall system architecture was one of the reasons it had to be abandoned. However, there are also successful public IT systems, such as the new system for student allocation to high schools.
"Building software without tailoring the architecture is like building family houses based on blueprints for super hospitals or vice versa. Without a tailored foundation and a well-defined structure, you risk that the house cannot be built or collapse at the slightest load, such as during a cyber-attack. Software architecture ensures that all parts are built efficiently and work together harmoniously, making it much more likely to deliver the system within the expected framework and quality," explains Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard.
He adds that the conference will have a long-term impact on the research and educational environment at SDU and contribute to the development of software architecture as a critical area within engineering.
Conference Provides an Overview of the Latest Trends
The conference theme, "Architecting for the Next Generation of Intelligent Systems," covers a wide range of topics, including architecture for AI-based systems and software architecture development through AI.
"We look forward to exploring how software architecture can drive the development of more advanced and intelligent systems," says Professor Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard.
Participants will be able to learn about the latest trends and techniques in software architecture and how these can be applied to build next-generation intelligent systems.
