DKK 25 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation for new research equipment

The acquisition of new technology will support biological and medical research

INTEGRA is the name of a new advanced research infrastructure at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Among its purposes, INTEGRA will support biological and biomedical research in metabolic diseases, cancer, aging, environment and health.

The project is directed by Professor Ole Nørregaard Jensen, BMB, an expert in protein research and mass spectrometry.

- This large grant of DKK 25 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation ensures that we can purchase and use the latest mass spectrometry technology to examine biomolecules in cells, organs and model organisms as well as in patient samples. The new equipment that we acquire as part of INTEGRA will also increase our capacity to enter into more research collaborations with researcher colleagues throughout Denmark.

Mass spectrometry is an advanced measurement method that can determine the amount and composition of biomolecules, e.g. proteins, carbohydrates and fats. By comparing measurements from healthy and diseased cells and tissues, researchers can identify the molecular mechanisms that can lead to disease and thereby also uncover opportunities for medical treatment and the development of new drugs.
