SDU DHFE section is excited share that Assistant Professor Tim McRae has received support from EnergiFyn Udviklingsfond to develop ZEELA, a system which focuses on eliminating the leakage energy produced by household appliances operating in stand-by.

By integrating simultaneous non-intrusive energy measurement and harvesting along with AI/ML for data analysis, the fully automatic IoT architecture will be able to predict household energy consumption behaviour and judiciously activate and deactivate appliances. The funds have already been used to acquire computing infrastructure for AI/ML, develop circuits for measurement and energy harvesting, and create a star-network communication system using Zigbee.

This project is the first step towards a fully integrated system-on-chip.
