Guidelines concerning donation at the University of Southern Denmark

Members of the public over the age of 18 can donate their body for medical training and research.

The donor consent form is available upon request. Please contact:

Rigmor Jepsen
The education secretary, Winsløw Unit for anatomy, histology and plastination
The Department of Molecular Medicine
Campusvej 55
5230 Odense M

Tel.. 65 50 23 32
E-mail: rjepsen@health.sdu.dk

Donor's next of kin, general practitioner, and, if applicable, nursing home staff, should be informed about the decision.

Any memorial ceremony will not be effected by the donation but will be arranged in accordance with the donor's (or next of kin's) desires. Following this, it may take up to 1½ years before funeral or burial of the urn can take place.

The form must be completed and signed by the donor and two witnesses. The witnesses must be over the age of 18 and should not, according to law, be next of kin to the donor or employed at the Department of Molecular Medicine.

Precautions in the case of death
The undertaker chosen to be responsible for the practical arrangements in connection with the death must inform the Department of Molecular Medicine. All undertakers in the Region of Southern Denmark have received information about what to do in the case of body donations.

Donor's body must be transported to the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, in a coffin. The coffin is then stored at the Department of Molecular Medicine. It is of fundamental importance that the deceased donor's body is transferred to the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, as soon as possible.

If death occurs at the hospital, we ask next of kin to inform the relevant doctors about the donation, since a post-mortem examination may cause the Department of Molecular Medicine to cancel the donation.

The University of Southern Denmark guarantees full anonymity.

If death occurs outside Denmark, the Department of Molecular Medicine have to consider the donation agreement cancelled.
