Research areas

Research is a core activity and an integrated function in the Clinical Microbiology Department's work areas related to laboratory diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infections at Hospital Lillebælt and in the hospital's catchment area.

The Clinical Microbiology Department at Vejle Hospital is a research-active clinical specialty that collaborates with local and external researchers and research units. The department has a regional function for several epidemiological investigations and infections.

Central research areas

MRSA

In recent years, central research areas have included epidemiological investigations of MRSA with the establishment of a MALDITOF "typing method" for MRSA and a regional MRSA surveillance system LIVA with an associated database that continuously registers all findings of MRSA in Region Syddanmark.

HAIR

The infection surveillance system HAIR has been developed into a regional system, and a major project has been launched to develop a new module for predicting the risk of acquiring urinary tract infections during hospitalization and early patient-specific preventive measures based on data mining and machine learning.

PhD projects

PhD projects are established continuously in collaboration with other research units.PhD studies are conducted, for example, within the field of diagnosis and prevention of GBS infections in newborns and new laboratory diagnostic methods for neuroborreliosis.
