Nordic Energy Informatics Summit 2024: Harnessing Informatics for the Green Energy Transition

Odense, Denmark – August 28, 2024 – The SDU Center for Energy Informatics hosted the Nordic Energy Informatics Summit 2024 at the Mærsk No.1 building on the SDU Odense campus. The summit brought together leading experts, researchers, and industry professionals from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland to explore the pivotal role of informatics in driving the transition to green energy across the Nordic region.

This year's summit featured six keynote speakers who highlighted the importance of leveraging informatics to optimize resources, enhance efficiency, and foster collaboration in the energy sector. The event addressed critical questions, such as how the latest advancements in energy informatics can be utilized to overcome the unique energy challenges faced by the Nordic countries, and how cross-border collaboration can accelerate these efforts.

Central to the discussions was the transformative power of energy informatics in the green transition. Key topics included:

  • Localized Informatics Solutions for Global Challenges: Speakers emphasized the development of informatics-driven strategies tailored to local needs, ensuring that solutions are both effective and sustainable within the specific energy contexts of the Nordic countries.
  • Real-Time Data and Scenario Analysis: The summit highlighted how cutting-edge informatics tools, such as real-time monitoring and data analytics, are revolutionizing energy systems. These tools are enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of energy production and consumption.
  • Digitalization in Energy Systems: Participants explored how the digitalization of energy infrastructures, powered by informatics, is enabling smarter, more resilient energy systems. This includes the integration of distributed energy resources and the application of smart city technologies.
  • Bridging Academia and Industry with Informatics: The importance of forging stronger connections between academic research and industrial applications was a recurring theme. Informatics serves as the bridge that can translate theoretical advancements into practical, data-driven solutions for sustainable energy systems.

A major highlight of the summit was the announcement of the Energy Informatics Academy Network Nordic (2024-2028). This initiative aims to consolidate efforts across the Nordic countries to advance the field of energy informatics, fostering innovation and collaboration over the next four years.

The event was a resounding success, reinforcing the collaborative ties between the Nordic nations and setting the stage for continued joint efforts in the future. It provided a unique platform for university students, researchers, industry professionals, and public sector representatives to engage deeply with the field of energy informatics, exchange ideas, and forge partnerships aimed at tackling the region's energy challenges.

Looking ahead, the momentum generated at this summit will continue, with Sweden set to host the next Nordic Energy Informatics Summit in 2025. The continued focus will be on harnessing informatics to push the boundaries of innovation in the green energy transition.

For those at the forefront of energy informatics and sustainable energy practices in the Nordic region, the Nordic Energy Informatics Summit 2024 offered invaluable insights and opportunities, setting the stage for future advancements and collaborations.
