Bo Nørregaard Jørgensen presented "Digital transformation of the existing building stock for the green energy transition" at the International Conference on Building Data Acquisition, Ontology and Modelling (ICBOM) 2024, Hong Kong
Abstract:
The green energy transition necessitates a comprehensive digital transformation of the existing building stock, as buildings account for a significant portion of global energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Therefore, optimizing the performance of the existing building stock through the innovative use of cutting-edge digital technologies is paramount for achieving global sustainability goals. This talk will explore the integration of innovative digital technologies, such as IoT, cloud computing, and AI, across the lifecycle of existing and future buildings. We will examine case studies showcasing successful cyber-physical retrofitting projects focusing on reducing energy consumption and enhancing operational efficiency while ensuring occupants' comfort. Furthermore, the presentation will discuss the regulatory, economic, and technical hurdles encountered during these transformations and propose strategies for overcoming them. Attendees will gain insights into the potential of digitalization in driving the green energy transition within the built environment, highlighting its implications for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and society at large.
