OU44 – A world class building when it comes to energy efficiency!!

On February 24, 2016 the Danish Building & Property Agency and Center for Energy Informatics, SDU had a joint event in building OU44 at University of Southern Denmark. At the event Head of The Danish Building & Property Agency Gyrithe Saltorp handed over the energy performance test protocol for the building to Vice-Chancellor, SDU Henrik Dam.

Henrik Dam welcomed the guests with a presentation of the building. He specifically emphasized three unic things about the building. The energy performance of this building is at the top of the world, the building has worked from day one with a minimum of complaints, and the building works as a Living Lab giving researchers access to a wide range of data.

Gyrithe Saltorp Head of the Danish Building & Property Agency also praised the building and called it an example to follow setting the standard for future buildings. One of the reasons for the huge success of the building is the corporation between the Danish Building & Property Agency, the contractors, Technical Services at SDU and researchers from Center for Energy Informatics all through the building process. This group of people have meet right from the start to define the project and have adjusted the plans along the way to avoid any surprises.

This means that we now have a class 2020 building here at SDU. A building that not only benefits the users but a building that also is of great use to the researchers at the Center for Energy Informactic in their research in energy performance in both new and existing buildings. So far, the building is already part of the projects COORDICY: ICT-driven Coordination for Reaching 2020 Energy Efficiency Goals in Public and Commercial Buildings and DRComCap: Demand-Response Capacity Management in Commercial Buildings. At this point, there are also four student projects involving data from building OU44 in Software Engineering and Energy Technology. And there are many more research and student projects to come.
