Clare Kirkpatrick has held the position of Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark since 2020. She obtained her PhD in bacterial genetics from the University of Cambridge in 2006 and after postdoctoral work in the University of Geneva, she obtained a Marie Heim-Vögtlin career development grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation in 2015 to apply high-throughput chemical genetic screening to investigate cell polarity regulation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. She moved to the University of Southern Denmark to become Assistant Professor in 2017 and obtained promotion to Associate Professor in 2020. Clare’s research focus is on bacterial stress response mechanisms and their interaction with cell cycle regulation, using Caulobacter crescentus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa as model organisms, and DNA damage, cell envelope stress (particularly by antibiotics) and bacteriophage attack as stress factors. Key methods employed in the group include classical bacterial genetics, genomics and transposon insertion-deep sequencing (Tn-Seq), cell biology and biochemistry, and high-throughput chemical-genetic screening. The group maintains a medium-throughput chemical screening platform in the BSL class 2 lab of the Research Unit for Molecular Microbiology.
