Product Development and Innovation engineering is an engineering education, that enables you to develop innovative solutions for the problems of the future. You learn to develop products with a focus on innovation, sustainability and digitalization. To us products are not just physical things, but a solution to a target groups needs, developed with an understanding of the business to make it happen. We always work on the basis of which innovation is needed. Sustainability we see as the foundation for creating something new and digitalization is about creating the products of tomorrow and understand what that means for the consumer, but also the organization/company to handle this.

We will give you an engineering knowledge, a technological and scientific insight and a market orientated methodology and understanding. We give you the theories and methods, which you test and use in interdisciplinary and project based teamwork.

What will I learn?

The education combines technical insight with a market understanding, this means you learn to both create the product and the business. You will get competencies to be able to plan and implement complex innovation and digitalization projects, on the grounds of the newest knowledge about technologies, theories on innovation and products as complex digital solutions. You learn to organize and lead projects, to cooperate across an organization, but also to form you own profile as a business minded engineer.

You will get knowledge about construction, productdevelopment, materials, technological processes, creative idea development, marketanalysis, consumer needs, global networks, industrial design, sustainability, software, sensors economy, product portfolio and even more.

How is the programme structured?

The education combines theoretical teaching with projectwork in teams, where theory and method is tested on specific issues. Often in co-operation with a company. Every semester has a main theme, that forms the basis for classes, as well as team-/projectwork.

We start 1. semester with the basic in innovation and product development and then we build on top of that each semester – with the goal of working with more and more complex problems and solutions. At 1. semester there is a focus on innovation and basic product development. At 2. Semester we build on top of that with a consumer and market orientation. At 3. semester we expand with sustainability and companies as an organization – what kind of organization is required to enable the solution and what is required from the society in terms of sustainability. At 4. Semester its about being able to see the solution as part of a system, maybe a product family, or e.g. a product service system. 5. Semester is about innovation, entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary skills, or e.g. going abroad and study at a foreign university. At 6. Semester you write your bachelorthesis and use your knowledge and competencies learned on the previous semesters, together with knew courses on e.g. advanced marketanalysis and digital technologies.

Master's Degree

The bachelor's program lasts three years, after which you take the two-year master's programme to achieve a MSc in Engineering. Here you can, for example, work with value creation in products and product development processes in a global context or the development of new products, where you involve sustainability and users along the way.

What can I become?

This programme gives you several career opportunities - both in Denmark and abroad. For example, you will be able to get a job as a market analyst, product planner, developer, project manager in design and production companies. You can work with all types of products - from iPhones to wind turbines - either as a designer or as the one who integrates the business and technical aspects. You can also continue with a 3-year research programme, which leads to a PhD degree.
