BSc in Engineering

Programme structure

This is a three-year bachelor programme on top of which you can study a two-year master programme. The programme is taught in English.

The programme emphasises engineering skills, creativity and business know-how. The programme consists of compulsory modules and elective courses.

The study programme enables the students to handle the process from exploring and discovering new ideas to planning, managing and finally implementing a business concept of their own. The bachelor student is trained in fundamentals of engineering and business administration as well as techniques to develop products and business ideas condensed into business cases.

During the semester projects you will be working with the following themes:

  4. Digital Manufacturing
  5. Experts in Teams
  6. Bachelor Project

Through these you gain both theoretical and practical experience in bringing an idea to its true potential and realization.

In addition to the compulsory course modules and the mechatronics projects you will have a choice of elective modules.

In your 5th semester, you have the opportunity to study abroad at a foreign university. You can choose either a university that SDU collaborates with, or you can choose to arrange your stay at another university. SDU collaborates with more than 200 partner universities, and we want to help you find the perfect place for you.

The rules for your degree are specified in the programmes’ curriculum, which is the formal description of your education.

The curriculum contains information about the purpose and structure of the programme, including which subject elements the program contains, whether there are opportunities for a semester abroad, project-oriented courses or similar, rules for conducting teaching and exams and rules for participation in exams, etc.

As a student, you are responsible for keeping yourself informed about the rules that apply to your programme. Therefore, it is important that you know the curriculum for your programme.

A subject description is a detailed description of a subject, where you can, for example read about the purpose of the subject, the content of the subject, including the form of teaching, the expected workload, and the exam in the subject.

The programme lasts three years (six semesters) and is standardised at 180 ECTS - i.e. one year of full-time education amounts to 60 ECTS. The ECTS system is an international points system, and ECTS indicates the workload to which the completion of a given education is standardised.

The subjects in the bachelor programmes are typically examined at their completion, which means that you go to the exam in January and June.

Many different types of exams are used: written and oral exams, take-home exams and seminars and projects.

A seminar is a form of teaching and examination in which all students in the seminar circle must write an assignment. The assignments are then discussed in the seminar circle, and the students take turns defending their own assignment, opposing the assignment of others and being “general” discussion participants.

A Bachelor's degree is just the beginning of your education

The bachelor's programme lasts three years, after which you take the two-year master's programme to achieve a master’s degree. A bachelor in Engineering, Innovation and Business will therefore often continue the programme with a relevant master's degree in, for example, Engineering, Innovation and Business in Sønderborg.
