Research areas

The primary mission of the research unit is to conduct, implement, and consolidate clinical research in radiology and nuclear medicine at Esbjerg and Grindsted Hospitals, Southern Denmark University Hospital. This is done in close collaboration with other clinical and paraclinical departments, spanning various specialties and patient pathways.

The research unit covers a wide spectrum in the fields of radiology and nuclear medicine, including diverse areas of interest, expertise, and methodologies. The research is interdisciplinary, leveraging multiple imaging modalities, with a significant emphasis on CT and MR. Many of our interdisciplinary projects also involve nuclear medicine studies.

The research is organized into several research profiles, referred to as work packages (WP):

  1. Neuroresearch (focusing on stroke, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and brain tumors)
  2. Photon counting CT
  3. Cardiovascular imaging and radiographic research
  4. Artificial intelligence (AI) and qualitative studies
  5. Nuclear medicine technology and bioanalytical projects
