Center member, Associate Professor Christian Veje was invited speaker and international resource for the Indo European Study Group Meeting on Industrial Problems, M.S.University, Baroda India, during the second week of January 2015.

The study group was arranged by Center for Industrial Mathematics, MSU, Baroda India and Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland, and more than 100 students, faculty members, international resource persons and industrial researchers participated in the study group.

The purpose of the week long study group was to give exposure to researchers and young faculty as well as post-graduate students to live industrial problems requiring mathematical solutions. It also gave a chance for industrial experts to interact with academicians and students. 8 industrial challenges were addressed during this week and were concluded with presentations and a report for the companies.

During his stay, Christian presented the University of Southern Denmark and the Center for Energy Informatics. He gave a presentation on mathematical modeling of LiFePo batteries and he headed one of the groups on the industrial problem of modeling the temperature distribution during quenching of large steel casts.

Subsequently he presented the Center and its latest efforts in ICT-driven coordination for improving the energy efficiency in Buildings - COORDICY  - at the Danish innovation center in New Delhi.

Facts

The “Study Group with Industry” concept was pioneered at University of Oxford in the late 1960's and later renamed as European Study Groups with Industry (ESGI). Since then ESGI has become a successful model on a worldwide scale - read more about the concept at http://miis.maths.ox.ac.uk/.

These events also run on an annual basis in Denmark - read more at www.esgi.dk.
The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller institute will host
the next Danish ESGI event in August 2015.
