Research areas

The research primarily originates from the emergency department and always aims to actively involve patients. Additionally, we collaborate on projects with other departments within the hospital, other hospitals in the region, as well as national and international partners.

With the establishment of Emergency Departments (FAM) in 2007, a significant demand for knowledge about acute cases and treatment pathways emerged. In response, the hospital has identified emergency research as a strategic priority and established a dedicated research unit.

The emergency research at Esbjerg and Grindsted Hospital aims to ensure evidence-based solutions for acute medical and surgical issues, thereby supporting the ongoing development of emergency treatment functions at the hospital.

Although the research is primarily based in the hospital's emergency department, it consistently aims to involve patients and collaborate on projects with other departments within the hospital, other hospitals in the region, as well as national and international partners.

Key research areas include:

  1. Fluid therapy for acutely ill patients
  2. Antibiotic treatment in emergency departments
  3. Organisational and economic analyses of acute patient pathways
  4. Maritime research
