The aim of the project is to improve fish tests - known as OECD test guidelines - that are used by authorities and industry to assess whether chemicals have endocrine disrupting properties. These improvements will potentially allow for more information to be obtained from each test, reduce the number of tests required, and result in better environmental protection. It is also examined whether fish embryo tests can be used to detect or rule out endocrine disruption in fish without having to use fish in protected life stages. The experiments involve testing new endocrine markers with focus on thyroid system disruption.
