Gzim Rama
Education: MSc in Business controlling, 2020
Position: Senior Business Analytics Consultant i twoday

Gzim’s Role in the Industry

Gzim Rama works as a Senior Business Analytics Consultant at twoday, which is a company that develops digital services for public and private companies. With his knowledge of Business Intelligence (BI), he advises and optimizes businesses. BI is a technology that converts various types of data into information for companies. In his broad field of expertise, he sets up automated flows that extract data from source systems and systematize them.

Educational Choices

When Gzim Rama had to decide on his education, he followed the advice of a former colleague and chose to study for a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration (HA) at the University of Southern Denmark. This advice marked the beginning of a five-year journey that led him to graduate as BSc and later his Master’s degree in Business Controlling.

Gzim completed his bachelor in 2018. After that, he considered studying Business Intelligence in Aarhus, but with a girlfriend in Kolding and a newborn child, he chose Kolding as his study city. When he saw he had the opportunity to study for a Master’s in Business Controlling and stay in Kolding, he knew that he wanted to continue his educational adventure at SDU.

When Gzim started his Master’s, he attended an event on campus in Kolding called Business Lunch where networking and meeting companies was the main objective. Here, he struck up a conversation with a representative from the wholesale company Würth. This conversation turned out to be the gateway to a student job, where he got his first introduction to working with Controlling and Business Improvement.

When Gzim completed his Master’s, he once again utilized his network which led to a full-time position at DLG. After leaving DLG, he spent about 2.5 years in different positions as a consultant at Relate IT before the company was sold to twoday where Gzim now works as a Senior Business Analytics Consultant. It is especially the desire to learn new technologies and methods that drives Gzim Rama.

- I am motivated by exploring new technologies and helping businesses make data-driven decisions - Gzim Rama

Importance of Education

During his master studies in Business Controlling, Gzim learned how to work in Excel and automating data processing programs. This gave him a solid foundational understanding of working with data, which laid the groundwork for learning more about BI.

Working with data and algorithms is complex for most, but Gzim's greatest strength lies precisely in translating business needs into technical solutions, ensuring that companies get the necessary reporting to make data-driven decisions.

Gzim had a course called Sales and Consulting while studying his master’s. Here, he learned how to advise both internal and external stakeholders. Therefore, it was quite natural for him to use the learned communication skills in the job market.

Gzim’s job is technical as well as it requires an understanding of business. Although he has gained many useful skills from his education, it is the overall mindset of how to solve tasks that is the strength he has benefited the most from in his career.

- At university, you learn how to deal with new and complex things that you may not know anything about, so the ability to come up with new ideas and solutions is probably the skill I use the most in my work.

As the market for digital solutions is constantly evolving, Gzim ensures to stay updated by following the thoughts of the industry leaders. Especially through his network on LinkedIn, he gets valuable information that he can be inspired by and experiment with, as he himself says:

- You don’t stop learning just because you’ve finished university. You need to keep learning, and there will always be new things to learn. You shouldn’t be afraid to embrace new knowledge.

Gzim's advice for students

Find a student job relevant to your studies because:

  • it gives you a better understanding of the academic content in your studies.

  • you start your career earlier and find it easier to secure full-time employment after graduation.

  • you quickly gain insight into which tasks motivate you.

When you start a new job:

  • don’t be afraid to ask questions about things you’re unsure of.

  • your colleagues have often been in the same situation and are happy to help.
