Jessica is a Brazilian Environmental Engineer from Natal. She is interested in eutrophication, lake remediation, phosphorus cycling, and lake sediments.
She has a master’s degree in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, during which she studied phosphorus fractions in lake sediments and their potential for release/retention in relation to the water column. She had been studying phosphorus in freshwater sediments since the final year of her Bachelor’s degree while working on her undergraduate final dissertation.
Within the RecaP project, her focus is in the prevention of freshwater eutrophication through the recovery of phosphorus utilizing the interactions between Iron and Phosphorus. This research will hopefully contribute to the improvement of water quality as well as help close the loop of the phosphorus cycle.
