POLIMA Visiting Professor - Joel Yang from Singapore University of Technology and Design

Time to discuss polariton research and develop new ideas

By Louise Skovborg Just, , 8/28/2024

This summer, Professor Joel Yang has spent 1½ month at SDU POLIMA exploring possibilities of new research experiments and creating stronger bonds to the POLIMA research team.

Professor Joel Yang: 'I've learnt a lot about the research on polaritons here in POLIMA. One of the key ingredients in this research is the formation of quasi-particles through strong coupling between elementary particles, such as electrons and photons.'

During the visit, the teams have discussed research collaborations between Professor Joel Yang's  group in Singapore University of Technology and Design and SDU POLIMA on topics related to coupling of excitons with plasmonic cavities. For instance, the teams are seeding new ideas for experiments that could allow us to achieve direct positioning of single photon emitters using lithographic methods. Such approaches will be beneficial in bringing polaritonics into actual devices.

Based on a grant from Otto Mønsted Foundation, Professor Joel Yang will spend in total 3 months at SDU POLIMA.
