"We've been really busy." - FLASH showcases the superorgan at the Research Day 2024

Research Day is a national event to which all universities contribute each year, and SDU and the Health Faculty (SUND) were no exception. FLASH had a booth at this year's event under the name "Liver Disease - What, Where, and How." The booth was a great success, according to Johanne Kragh Hansen, a medical doctor, Ph.D. student, and responsible for FLASH's booth on the day.

"We've been told that there were 4300 guests at SDU throughout the day, and when we were in the main hallway, there were a lot of people who stopped by, paused, and had a chat with us. So we've been really busy," Johanne Kragh Hansen says with a smile.

At the booth, guests of all ages could come by and learn about the liver through play and learning. There was an opportunity to see and touch a pig's liver, color the "super organ" and other superheroes, and have a good conversation with our five researchers at the booth about prevention. Prevention of liver diseases is precisely why FLASH is so active at Research Day, Johanne Kragh Hansen explains.

"We believe the liver is an overlooked organ, and therefore, we would like to contribute to telling about the liver's over 200 different functions and why it's important to take care of it," she explains and continues:

"We've spent the day talking a lot about hidden liver diseases and what we do at the center to get better at detecting these diseases earlier. It's important for people to understand that you can get sick in the liver for several different reasons, not just alcohol and the amount you consume."
