BISSA (Baltic Intelligence Studies and Security Association) is a new network which aims to bring a broad range of people with a special interest in intelligence studies together for discussion. Intelligence is a subject which plays an ever growing role in the public in most of the participating countries. However, there hardly exist traditions for intelligence as a field of scientific research. Nevertheless, the number of researchers which in their daily work deal with the subject is steadily increasing. Empirical, historical intelligence research has experienced a boost especially in Poland and Germany thanks to the opening of Cold War archives. BISSA offers these researchers a new platform for meetings across the Baltic Sea, and aims to promote international cooperation as well as dissemination of research results.
BISSA is open to people with a scientific interest in the subject - both scholars as well as former intelligence practitioners. The association aims to unite scholars from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany through conferences and network meetings. It is also important to establish a scientific yearbook for intelligence studies.
