Ph.D. Angela Y. Chang is an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health and the Danish Centre for Health Economics (DaCHE) at SDU.

Angela Y. Chang received her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, doctoral degree from Harvard University, and postdoctoral training at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. She grew up in Taiwan and Japan, and is currently based in Copenhagen.

Her research interests lie in the areas of global health, health economics, and health metrics.  She is committed to reducing health and wealth inequalities globally through her work, and is motivated by the belief that research can provide the inputs needed to inform policies and improve resource allocation, and ultimately, impact population health.

Her recent works consists of measuring experienced burden of disease in Denmark, measuring gender inequalities in health, studying climate youth migration in Uganda, and capturing the monetary value of changes in health to estimate the economic burden of disease, among others. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and worked with international global health agencies including the World Bank, UNICEF, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is currently a member of the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health.

Recently, she received a DANIDA-funded grant of  DKK 10 mil. to study climate youth migration in Uganda for four years. Read more about the project here.

When she is not at work, you will find her at local playgrounds pushing her daughters on swings (for an unreasonable length of time). She is also honing her multitasking ability to listen to three talkative girls simultaneously.
