M.Sc., Ph.D., Dr. Scient. Professor Sergey I. Bozhevolnyi is the founder and current Head of Centre for Nano Optics at SDU (SDU NanoOptics).
Prior to his employment at SDU, Professor Sergey I. Bozhevolnyi held a professor position at Aalborg University and is a co-founder and Technical Director (CTO) of Micro Managed Photons A/S. He was also the Head of the Section of Optical Technologies at the Institute of Microelectronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Professor Sergey I. Bozhevolnyi is widely recognised for having pioneered theoretical and experimental studies in nano-optics and for the development of various plasmonic waveguides, including those based on long-range, channel and dielectric-loaded surface plasmons. The latest achievements include pioneering work on gap plasmon-based waveguides and resonators as well as their use for ultra-compact photonic components and gradient metasurfaces enabling complete control over radiation.
He has been recognised with prestigious European and Danish research grants, various awards and honorary titles, including the Elected Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA Fellow) and Member of the Danish Academy of Natural Sciences (DNA) and Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV).
His research spans a wide range of topics of nanoscience and nanotechnology, including linear and nonlinear nano-optics, plasmon-based nanophotonics, integrated and fibre optics, linear and nonlinear surface-enhanced spectroscopy and imaging, and quantum plasmonics. He has been on the Web of Science (Clarivate) List of Highly Cited Researchers in Physics since 2017.
