The advantage of topological quantum computing
The quantum systems that form the physical basis of most quantum computing architectures are prone to errors, either from imperfect implementation of the quantum gates, or those arising from interactions with their environment. Topological quantum computing (TQC) is a physical and mathematical framework where the quantum states and gates are naturally protected from such errors, since they are independent from small changes in the environment.
In this project, we use the deep connections between TQC, Topological Quantum Field Theory and low-dimensional geometry to
- develop a platform to write gate-based quantum algorithms in the native language of braids arising from geometry, and
- extend the framework of TQC to systems with more complex topology.
