Johan is an ecosystem ecologist with general expertise in the causes and consequences of biodiversity loss, with a focus on diversity within and across trophic levels in coastal ecosystems. His expertise includes design/analysis of multi-site, multi-variable field surveys to tease apart the role of abiotic drivers from biotic interactions on biodiversity, ecosystem structure and function; causal statistical modeling to tease apart cause-effect relationships in complex systems; multi-factor field and lab experiments; and field sampling and analyses for estimations of carbon cycling and sequestration in vegetated sediment/soil habitats.
