Jørn Brøndal is Professor of American Studies and Chair of the Center for American Studies at the University of Southern Denmark. In his research, Brøndal focuses on political, ethnic, and racial history, including domestic policy, migration history, and the history of race. He took his PhD degree at the University of Copenhagen in 1999 following a Fulbright research fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. His book Ethnic Leadership and Midwestern Politics: Scandinavian Americans and the Progressive Movement in Wisconsin, 1890-1914 (2004) won the Wisconsin Historical Book Award of Merit. His Danish-language Det sorte USA: Fra Uafhængighedserklæringen til Barack Obama (Black America: From the Declaration of Independence to Barack Obama, 2016) was shortlisted for two book awards. Danske Amerikanere (Danish Americans) on Danish migration to the United States with a special focus on encounters with "other" Americans is slated for publication in June 2020. Brøndal was President of the Nordic Association for American Studies 2011-13. He appears frequently on Danish television and radio shows and for a year-and-a-half served as panelist on a weekly Danish TV show dedicated to analyzing the presidency of Donald Trump.
