New Associate Professor of epidemiology at OPEN
Ane Bærent Fisker is associated with OPEN as Associate Professor of Epidemiology from May 15, 2016.
Ane Bærent Fisker is a physician from Aarhus University, 2007, and PhD in medicine from the University of Aarhus, 2011. Ane researches in the "real-life" effect of health interventions on children in low-income countries; i.e., the impact interventions have on overall mortality and morbidity and not only the effect that is limited to the target disease. Ane has repeatedly demonstrated that interventions do not always work as expected - interventions can interact with each other, it can produce unexpected effects, and they may be different for boys and girls.
Ane has been associated with the Bandim Health Project, Statens Serum Institute since an pre-graduate research year in 2004. Her research is based on Bandim Health Projects demographic surveillance system in Guinea-Bissau, but also includes cooperation with demographic monitoring stations in other low income countries. At Bandim Health Project in Guinea-Bissau Ane is responsible for the demographic monitoring of 182 village clusters across the country. Within this platform, she implements, in collaboration with other researchers, PhD students and research year students, randomized studies of changes in vaccination programs.
